Chi
Chi is a soul-rooted singer-songwriter blending Afrobeat, funk, and indie folk into music that grooves, heals, and inspires wonder. Whether fronting a 10-piece ensemble or performing alone with a guitar, Chi’s voice is unmistakable—fluid, purpose-filled, and grounded in stories of love, justice, and personal freedom.
The longtime frontman of award-winning D.C.-based funk band AZTEC SUN / Everyday Everybody, Chi has spent over a decade lighting up stages with high-energy, horn-laced performances. The band was featured as part of the 2023 NPR Tiny Desk On The Road tour, and has opened for artists like Cory Henry, Burning Spear, Durand Jones & The Indications, The Wailers and The Suffers. Their work has earned acclaim in The Washington Post, Washington City Paper, and beyond.
Now stepping into his own name and sound, Chi’s debut solo album, The Wonderful Life of Brother GoodLove (releasing this Fall), reveals a more intimate and expansive side of his artistry. Co-produced with Alan Evans (Soulive), the album blends storytelling warmth, vulnerable lyricism, and soulful grooves.
Chi’s music is for seekers, soul-lovers, and rhythm travelers. It moves the body—and stays with the spirit. Drawing influence from Henri Dikongué, Marvin Gaye, Dave Matthews Band, and Bloc Party, Chi creates sonic spaces where memory, resistance, and joy can dance together.
The Wonderful Life of Brother GoodLove is more than a debut—it’s an invitation.
